Description
Domestic abuse is not just aimed at domestic workers. It is also reality for many Singaporean women and their children. Good Shepherd Centre is a women’s safe house (similar to the ‘Blijf van mijn Lijf’ houses in The Netherlands). Their location is top-secret and photography is not allowed. They offer shelter to young women, mothers and their children, as well as foreign domestic workers who experience abuse and violence. A peaceful home is offered to stay where they can heal and recover from their trauma.
The programs at Good Shepherd Centre aim to empower the women living there, take responsibility for their own lives, and develop resilience. Good Shepherd Centre also teaches the women various skills to help grow self-confidence, to take charge of their families, and to reintegrate into the wider community.
