Often, foreign workers are in debt even before they arrive in Singapore. They work for months before they are paid anything. Any unforseen circumstance or injury sustained at work is more often than not ignored by the employer and they are left to their own devices, sometimes unable to earn their livelihood on which they and families back home are dependent to survive.
